Recovery equipment is not just for extreme off-roaders. Sand on Fraser Island, a muddy fire trail after rain, a washed-out station track or a slippery campsite can stop a standard touring setup quickly. A sensible kit is affordable insurance, but only if every component is suitable for the load and used with care.
Start with rated recovery points
A recovery strap is only as safe as the point it is attached to. Factory tie-down loops, shipping points and some aftermarket bull bar mounts are not automatically recovery points. They may look substantial, but they can bend or fail under load.
Fit front and rear recovery points designed for your specific vehicle where possible. They should be clearly rated, mounted to an appropriate chassis location and installed with the correct high-tensile hardware.
